Our Garden

5 x 7 inches, oil on board.
$80

It may be just green blobs now, but in another month our garden should show lots of color. We have morning glory, phlox, snapdragon, lupine, moss rose, daisy, nasturtium, and vegetables (the yellow blobs towards the back). The garden is a lifeline for Kay and myself. We spend as much time outside as is practical, or possible. If we can do our work outside, we'll drag it outside. The house next door is empty (where the red car sits) and acts as a quiet buffer. We have a nice little oasis of nature.

The color of the soil in this painting interests me more than the plants. I'm going to put down mulch soon and I almost regret covering up the soil. The flowers are starting to bloom now--but the austere way the garden looks here is just as attractive.

the car creaping in is a nice touch to the composition, makes me think of a world out there!

Thanks, ming. It used to be that I would carefully leave out any reference to the urban or industrial world, wishing my work to look pastoral and pure. Now I get a thrill from seeing in a painting the intrusion of electrical lines or rusted debris in an otherwise gorgeous landscape.
